Matthew King

Matthew King is an Associate for EWI. He manages EWI's Preventive Diplomacy Initiatives, including its Water Security Project, and serves as head of secretariat to the Parliamentarians Network for Conflict Prevention and Human Security. He also served in that position for the International Task Force on Preventive Diplomacy (2007-2008). Matthew is co-Chair of EWI’s Program Advisory Group. He previously worked as Manager for Development Operations. He has been with EWI since 2004.

Matthew’s main interests are in assessing and developing new opportunities for preventive diplomacy and working on improving international conflict prevention architectures. His current work focuses on improving regional cooperation in Central and South Asia, including Afghanistan and Iran, and on regional approaches in Africa, in particular Sudan. He also works on developing new approaches for traditional security and development by focusing on early prevention efforts.

Before joining EWI, Matthew worked in the legal profession in Ireland and in the private sector with Ford Motors in the field of change management. He is the (co) author of numerous policy papers including New Initiatives on Conflict Prevention and Human Security (2008), and Civic and Political Approaches to Peace (Sage, forthcoming).  Matthew received his Law Degree from the University of Wales and holds a Master in Peace & Conflict Resolution from the Centre for Conflict Resolution at the University of Bradford, England.
